what's the traffic like going into bethany beach on a saturday?

going on a saturday in the summer, don't get into rental until 3 or 4 (i forget).
We were thinking of getting there around 12 or so.
Any tips on when to arrive? Is the traffic brutal any time from like 11-4 (like the outer banks)?

Most renters check in at around 3, so traffic's pretty horrible. Get to the beach earlier, hang out, grab a bite to eat, maybe pick up some essential groceries. You're wise to plan ahead!

It's pretty bad coming in Rt. 26 on Saturdays. Better to get there before about 10:30 am or wait until later in the evening (around 8pm). There are some backroads you can take, depending on where you are staying.

OP here. Yikes, that's what I feared. We're staying very far north, close to the state park. Are we better off coming in through dewey?

YES! We stay in north Bethany in the Tower Shores area and we have always come in through Dewey, down Route 1.

The area where Route 1 splits into Dewey/Rehoboth beaches is AWFUL around 11:oo am to 1:00 pm as everyone leaving DC Saturday morning is arriving then. I waited 45 minutes once to go 2 miles.
