My sister and her family are coming to visit this weekend. Of course, she wants an authentic Maryland crab experience (even though we live in Northern VA). All my qualified babysitters are booked or otherwise busy and we really don't want to take 5 kids (ranging from 9 mos to 9 years) out to a crab joint (I forgot to mention the two 2 year olds and the 3 year old in between the others!).
Where can I get some steamed crabs(steamed with lemon and Old Bay) and all of the traditional fixings for carryout? SW DC? Arlington (the Upper Deck?)? Help! |

The Bethesda crab house and they are amazing. Also get the spiced shrimp!
Call ahead bc they sell out. |
| Captain Pell's in Fairfax. |
+1. And get an order of fried oysters too! |
| Captain Pells sounds great! We've been there to dine in before but I didn't realize they did carryout. I'll definitely look into it. Has anyone tried the steamed crabs from Wegmans? They advertise that they'll steam whatever seafood you buy there. I'm wondering if it would be as good as Captain Pells though... |

Go to the Maine avenue waterfront fish market and you can get a bushel of live crabs, and they'll steam right there for you.
That's authentic! And a fun experience. |
| I second the Bethesda Crab House as the best take home crabs. Just be aware there will be a certain amount of scary rednecks in there. |
The rough and ready crab House in Hyattsville. Getting some this weekend
|
| Ernie's Crabhouse in Old Town |
| Crab houses are often like BBQ joints-the scarier the better! |
| SW Waterfront without a doubt. Best crabs I have ever had--and I'm from Baltimore! |
