Schools and Education General Discussion
hello. just wondering if i am at a disadvantage if we wait to apply for kindergarten rather than preschool for the nw dc private schools ie: npa, st patricks, sidwell, beauvior, etc..
Probably yes. Most schools have more spots in preK than K (often on the order of twice as many), and although you might think that all the siblings get absorbed in preK, that is often not the case.
Absolutely! The school my daughter attends has very few K spots, but plenty at the PreK level. We started at PreK and had many friends who only had one option when they applied for K compared to a few choices for PreK. That said, if your child is somewhere that sends a bunch of kids on to private schools, check and see what the main entry point is for those kids and how many were successful at getting in at K.
