Stylist - Has anyone ever hired one?

Have you ever hired a stylist? How much does a service like this cost? Was it worth the cost?

I've been pregnant or in transition mode for the last 5 years. I was also working for those 5 years and I am now a SAHM. Basically my closet is full of maternity clothes, work clothes, and a lot of target dresses and shirts that are nursing friendly. Now that I'm done being pregnant and working, I'm a little lost as to where to start with building my wardrobe. I've tried several times to go out and buy jeans, but I don't have time to sort through the hundreds of options and end up leaving in frustration. In addition, I haven't read a style magazine in years and my three little ones leave me no time to go shopping for myself

Not sure about a stylist...but, Nordstrom's and Macy's have personal shoppers that are a great help. I would check that out.

I agree with the PP - a personal shopper could be right for you. Or you could just shop on-line - thats what I do.

I have a friend who is in state politics and she hired a stylist before running to help her get together her "uniform" and she really did look nice. Most of her services were pretty much what a personal shopper would do.

I hired Joyce Neave of Be That Mom. I think she charges $150 for a closet consultation to go through your existing wardrobe, and then $75/hour to take you shopping. I got some great ideas from her. It was definitely money well-spent.
She works with any budget too.

I think that Bloomingdales in Tyson's has personal shoppers too.

If you do it, please post back and let us know how it went. Have fun!

I hired Alison Lukes and it literally changed my life. I was at that stage where nothing fit post-baby--I had maybe 10 lbs to go, knew that it was going to take a little time, and just felt like crap. I think I spent about $300 for her to go through my closet, give me an honest assessment, piece together new outfits, and then for a few hours of shopping.

That was two years ago and I'm still following her advice.

I've also heard great things about bethatmom.com as well.
