Time to make pesto and I'm not thrilled with what I've found at Wholefoods and Trader Joes. Both only carry nuts from China and they have left a nasty metallic aftertaste in the past. Any good sources in N. Virginia?
Costco sells pine nuts. But I am not sure which area/country they come from.
I agree with you that Trader Joes pine nuts have that metallic aftertaste. I've found Costco ones to be really good.
Balducci's?
The Italian Store in Arlington. Right at 66 and Spout Run. Love that place. Their Italian subs are out of this world
Whole Foods sometimes has the kind from Europe (Spain?), but I haven't checked recently. The China ones are nasty.
Wegman's sells pine nuts. They are in the international section with the Italian products.
The WF in Clarendon has Turkish pine nuts right now. No metallic taste so far, but I haven't tried toasting them yet for my recipe. Just a few raw nibbles here and there - yum yum! |
