Hi there.
So the stars have aligned properly, and my man and I have a bonified date on Friday night! ...and us old fogeys are stumped. Where would you go for a fun, kind of foofy cocktail where you aren't going to feel like the oldest person in the room? That's not in Dupont or Georgetown? |
Any of the wine bars - I'd go to EVO or Corner Bistro in Mclean or La Sandia in Tysons Corner Center. There's a new restaurant in Potomac Village that might be fun to try and there's always Rio Grande in Bethesda.
If you are in or near Arlington, I would choose Liberty Tavern or Restaurant 3 in Clarendon or Restaurant Vero on Lee Highway.
OP here. Thanks! However, we're starting out in downtown DC (long story re: childcare and logistics). Any suggestions in the District proper?
Proof? Oya? Rasika?
Proof.
I've never heard of Proof. Is it a wine bar? Also, OP, try Corks on 14 st between R and S. It's really wonderful but make sure you get a reservation.

Proof is great for the slightly older crowd - specializes in wine, but fun for a cocktail. Love the interior, and the food is great. Rasika is wonderful but it has a tiny bar and the focus is on the restaurant, not cocktails.
Zengo or Rosa Mexicano or Poste? I also love the bar at Zaytinya (next to Proof), although leave a little time to wait for a spot on a busy night. CoCo Sala is the new big thing downtown (near all these places), but apparently it is still quite the scene right now. Have fun wherever you go! |
Oyamel, down the street from Verizon Center.
Ooh...Oyamel looks right up our alley...and that's a great neighborhood to head towards for other options. Thanks, guys!! I knew you would have some fabulous ideas.
