what is up with United, no pre-bording for kids??? So rude

We had to wait until the 5th bording call, even after we asked to get on with our 2 DCs

I really dislike United, not family friendly at all

Airline person here (don't work for united). Yes, it's terrible. What's happening is that they've taken so much away from their frequent fliers, that they're now pushing families out of special boarding to make the VIPs feel more important. And apparently many of the frequent fliers have demanded it. Sad.

I was just reading an article about "the war on kids". I don't understand why so many people get annoyed at them when we are out in public;(

Usair stopped Pre boarding too - flew to flOrida a few weeks ago and was shOcked. Back in the day I was a 100k flyer on united and never begrudged preboarding kids! Get them on! Instead two weeks ago I backed up the jetway breaking down my stroller and getting my baby out of the car seat to garett check - frustrating !!!

My friend just flew United (she's using up her frequent flier miles) and she waited until the LAST second to board with her carseat and her 3 year old. She took FOREVER. She slowly got in with her husband and took about 10 minutes to install the seat. She once she got her baby in, she then put her bag under the seat, she spent awhile getting her toddler in.

They came over to ask her to get seated....and she said "Oh! Sorry! I'm so used to preboarding that since I got on last, it's going to take me awhile"

She has three more flights and plans to do this each time and write a letter to United explaining why the flight was delayed (and how it was her fault).

I suggest each parent who flies United do the same.

Actually, as a parent of a toddler, I think getting on last (not the last second maybe, but definitely not in pre-boarding) is actually better. The less time my kid has to sit there on a non-moving plane, the better! Especially for crowded flights... you can sometimes be sitting there for upwards of 30 minutes if you get on first and wait for the entire plane to fill up and be ready for push off. That said, the other passengers on that flight might have connections or meetings they are trying to make. Not really fair to delay their flight and possibly alter their plans just to prove a point to a corporation.

That's disgusting behavior. What a great example she is setting for her children.

And the flight wasn't delayed because she couldn't get on first (cry me a river). It was delayed because she CHOSE to take her sweet time.

Yes lets inconvenience an entire plane to prove a dumb point. Your friend and you sound like assholes!

Lets see how fast you install a car seat on a plane.

Maybe with an infant it makes sense to board early, but with a toddler and beyond I always like to board as late as possible. Just sitting there is brutal while everyone boards.

I think the issue is more with overhead compartment space. As we all know, families carry a lot of crap.

I also agree with boarding towards the end (but not dead last) if you have mobile children. Why be confined to a plane with kids any longer than you have to? If there's no more space for your carry-on because you didn't get to pre-board, they'll gate check your stuff so there's no loss there.
