Wondering what the outdoor camps and others that offer outdoor play or swimming do during summer heat waves like this one. Are the kids staying indoors as advised from 10-3? What would you do if they are not planning to stay indoors but instead going out as usual?
I think most go out, but for shorter periods of time and have children drink a lot of water. I wouldn't worry too much about swimming. Mainly just sports in high temps.
Our camp had them outdoors..I was not happy and am thinking of pulling child out. Something about continuing outdoor sports in 100 degree heat that doesn't seem right. I was hoping that there was a heat contingency plan..nope..none. The camp director was surprised I asked. Great.
That is why I look for camps with an indoor theme. Can't trust that your child will be taken care of during the summer heatwaves...Or keep him home...
That is why I picked a camp with a heat/bad weather location for the vast majority of the outdoor activities. I think there are only 2 outdoor activities that they can't do inside.
Are your kids pre-schoolers? I don't have a problem with my 8 & 10 year olds out ( with adequate water/hats/sunscreen etc). It was not code red at all last week and the recommendations to stay in only listed very young, elderly and those with health issues. I hate to limit my kids to sedentary camps..that is not healthy either.
