Bedroom on different Level from DC

Anonymous
Any parents have their bedroom on a separate level or far away from DC?

How is that working out? DC are around 3 and 4.5 years old and I actually won't mind having a master suite away from their rooms but was a little worry about "the unknown".

TIA.

I don't have this but my SIL has had it in 2 homes. I think it's harder with babies, but with small children that can walk down stairs and get you if they need you it isn't as big a deal and would be great when they're older. It may be challenging for a couple of years but if you really love the house it would be worth dealing with for a little while.

We've had the kids on the third floor and our room on the second floor since they were about the same age as yours. I don't think it bothers them, and I appreciate the separation. They do still wake up at night, which means going up the stairs, but that doesn't really make much difference for me. Initially I worried about their coming down the stairs in the night alone (our stairs slope rather dramatically), but there have been no mishaps to date.

We just moved into a house where the master is on the main level and our son's room is upstairs. He's turning 4 next week. So far it's been fine, he has come downstairs in the middle of the night a couple of times and I've had to run up once because he was crying, but not too bad. We had lived in single-level homes since he was about 18 months, and I think I'm having a harder time with the stairs than he is.

We're having another baby in the spring, and I'm not sure how it's going to work out. We'll use the cosleeper for a while and hopefully this one will sleep through the night sooner than my son did. Ha ha. But I may get a twin bed to put in the baby's room for me to crash on when I need it.

We have this in our house. We are essentially in the converted attic on the 2nd floor and my 3 and 1 year old DSs are on the main level. We have not had an issue, other than occasionally having to run downstairs when our 3 year old gets up in the middle of the night. In the morning, we always hear them when they wake up (without a monitor). The only bad thing about them being on the main level is that they are right near the main bathroom and kitchen so we have to be really quiet once they are asleep.
