Mom-to-be here getting used to all this baby merchandise ... I have been told to get an infant car seat (like Graco) to use with a Snap 'N Go stroller frame for the first several (?) months. After that, I can switch to a larger stroller. Are both necessary? Would love to streamline if I can.
In case it affects your answer, a family member is purchasing a Bugaboo stroller for us, but I'm not yet sure which kind. Thank you for any anecdotes! |
You definitely want something that infant seat snaps into for the first several months. I don't know much about Bugaboos, so I can't comment on that. We just got a Graco travel system. The upside is, the seat snaps right onto the stroller, and then once the baby outgrows the infant seat, the stroller is good for another couple of years. Some people don't think they are the best quality, but mine has been through two kids and still works perfectly. The downside is that the stroller is on the heavy side. If you are getting a Bugaboo, and the car seat doesn't snap into it, I'd get the Snap N Go too. You will definitely want to be able to put in/pick up sleeping baby in the car seat, rather than dealing with the straps, transfer issues from stroller to car seat when you are out doing errands. |
If you want to streamline I believe the Bee is compatible with the Graco carseat (check the Bugaboo website) so if you can, ask if they'll get the Bee and then all you need is the carseat. Otherwise you will have to get the snap and go or perhaps a lightweight combo (like the Peg Perego carseat/stroller) for keeping in the car and use the Bugaboo for around the neighborhood. I don't have a Bugaboo but friends who do complain that it's pretty cumbersome to pull in and out of the car so they all leave it at home and have a Maclaren or other light weight stroller in the car. |
the snap n' go is easy to get in and out of the car and works well if you're strolling in the grocery store or another indoor spot with a smooth surface to stroll on, but is pretty rickety in comparison with the bugaboo and the other nicer strollers for use on the sidewalk. it depends on your neighborhood, but, where i live, there are lots of brick sidewalks and i could not get by with the snap n' go only. of course, like pp said, you can just make sure that the high end stroller you get has an adaptor that accomodates the carseat. and forego the snap n' go. |
It also depends on where you live and how much you will use a car seat vs. a stroller. You can snap a car seat into the Bugaboo Bee for sure. If you're already getting a stroller, might as well wait and see if you need the snap'n go.
Btw you might also want to look at the thread that discussed whether it's good for babies to be a car seat for very long. |
I think the other Bugaboos also take a Graco, but you have to buy another piece.
The Bugaboo is really heavy and I would not want to deal with that for the first couple of months. The snap and go was one of the best purchases - light, easy, small, awesome basket! |
