Any ideas/knowledge as to what's going on at UVA? Seems really lowdown dirty to me.

| Power hungry board members with their own political agenda who think they are above reproach. It is too bad - UVA used to be the model public, now it is still top tier, but michigan and unc have both passed it by. This sort of petty stuff will further stress the school - it will always be one of the ten top publics, but it will probably never be number one anymore. |
| I thought Cal was always no 1 for public colleges. |
But why did they kick her out? What is their political agenda that she was not subscribing to? |
I love how this is stated with SO much certainty.
|
| I have some knowledge of the inner workings of the administration, including some of the personnel she brought in. I'm not shocked to see her gone. |
Is this story worthy of such extensive coverage in your opinion? If so, which party is dirtier? |
Probably. I don't think Sullivan and administration is as virtuous as they're being made out to be, but I do think her removal lacked transparency and wasn't handled well. |
| helen dragas seems like a power hungry dragon with her own agenda. this incident is just disgusting to see. |
|
The lack of transparency for a state-institution is appalling. It is a very, very serious decision by a state university board to essentially fire the president when the president has not done something illegal. There seem to be genuine philosophical and fiscal differences between the president and some members of the board--these would not be just cause to let Sullivan go especially as she has had only two years on the job.
(I'm a UVA alum and a professor at a research university.) |
| Why didn't the bov check out Sullivan's philosophy before they hired her? |
| And Dom Starsia still has his job. Disgusting. |
| agree pp. Whatever the reasons for her removal -- UVA should be taken to the woodshed for handling this situation so poorly. They have really brought a lot of negative press to the school at a time when no institution who is trying to raise tons of money needs that kind of negtative press. |
a little too coy and short of credible detail without more specificity ... examples? |
yeah, what's this all about then? |
