Breastfeeding Class

I've signed up to take a class at the Breastfeeding Center. Is it also worth it to take the class offered at Sibley?

I thought that the BF Center provided all the assistance that you'll really need.

Georgetown Hospital has good BF class given by lactation consultants.

The Breastfeeding Center is the go to source. Take the class there and relax.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Maybe it had to do with the instructor, but I thought that class was completely useless and a waste of time.

PP - why was it useless/waste of time?

Loved the BFCenter class, especially because it allowed me to link into the fabulous staff there. In my postpartum fog, it was comforting to already know where to go for help.

I took the Momease class at GWU. The instructor was awful and read off a sheet for the first hour. I felt that it was a complete waste of time and was angry at how bad the instructor was. There was very little practical advice which is what you need.

I then went to the free class at the Breastfeeding Center. The consultant was streets ahead, gave very practical advice and was also very nice. That should be enough for you.

The GUH class had very little structure and not enough practical info to make it worthwhile. I learned more from reading one of the "What to Expect" books than that class. Although to be fair, I think that there is only so much you can learn about breastfeeding in theory; it's all about practice - for you and the baby. I would invest in a good lactation consultant instead. And if you are delivering at GUH, their LCs are very good and were very helpful. They'll visit you while you are a patient there - definitely take advantage of that if you can.

the classes at the BFC are so informative and pat shelley is so knowledgeable. and several of them are free. none of the hospital classes measure up.

Everyone seems to love Pat at the Breastfeeding Center but I find her disorganized and time-consuming. The information she conveys in an hour could take just 10 minutes.
