The Council's vote to select Phil Mendelson to replace Kwame Brown and Michael Brown to be Chairman Pro Tempore was one for the ages. The entire hearing is about an hour and a half and available on the Council's website. But, I put together a short compilation of some of the parts I enjoyed the most. This will give you a sense of some of the buffoonery that occurred (as well as a more powerful statement by Yvette Alexander):

When someone -- possibly you -- recently asked my opinion about open primaries, I said the idea was "very intriguing". So, while I agreed I didn't say, "I support open primaries", I am not exactly opposed to them either. Whether I support or oppose would depend on the details. But, I think election reform should be considered. In the meantime, I think campaign finance reform is an issue we can address now and I urge everyone who is a registered DC voter to sign a petition to put Initiative 70 on the ballot.
