We are moving soon to northern VA. We are looking to rent a home for 1-2 years before we buy. We are potentially looking at some th's and sfh's in vienna in the wolftrap and westbriar school districts. I know both are great schools, but I'm wondering if I could get any more feedback?
Also, this is a separate post, but are there any pools in Vienna that don't have a extremely long waiting list/membership dues? Do any gyms have outdoor pools? |
|
Part A: Wolftrap has a better reputation, with LLIV services, Westbrier does not have LLIV. Westbrier is getting a new Principal who I expect to do a great job; she is currently the assistant at Louise Archer.
As for part two, no. All have waitinglists. |
| Wolftrap principal, who was wonderful, is retiring this year. Not sure if a replacement has been named. |
|
I have friends who like both. Wolftrap offers Chinese through the FLES I believe. Westbriar does not have LLIV and is one of the smaller schools in the county.
As for pools, I know people who have joined Westwood CC for pool access since they can't get into a swim club. We go to Cardinal Hill but the wait list is many years long. There is a pool club down Gallows Road - Dunn Loring maybe? - that used to not have a wait list. Also, some people join Reston Association or get a season pass to the Water Mine for pool access. There is also Spring Hill Rec Ctr. which has an indoor pool. |

You could get an August pass to Vienna Aquatic Club and then get on the wait list for a summer 2013 rental in September. The VAC rental waitlist resets every year, so if you send the email right at midnight the Tuesday after Labor Day, you will definitely get a spot.
Also, the pool on Gallows that the PP referred to is called Holmes Run. It does not have a wait. |
| 9:20 again -Westbriar will have LLIV as of this fall. |
| Not sure if Hunter Mill has a wait list. Ditto the info about VAC. Vienna Woods wait list is about 3 years right now for a rental, not sure how long Cardinal Hill is (and CH is pricey!) |

All the pools have long waitlists. I've given up on worrying about this and just enjoy that we can rent instead. It usually takes about 2-3 years to get a rental at most pools and August memberships are offered earlier than that. There are a couple of pools that you can just pay daily membership rates around and so we do that and then pay for an August membership which works out a little better cost wise. If you use the pool a lot though, you'd want to rent for the summer.
Wolftrap's new principal will be their current assistant principal. I don't know who the new assistant principal will be. |
| You might like Shouse Village, it is a few miles north of Wolf Trap. Great ES (Colvin Run) on par with Wolftrap and Westbriar. Also, the neighborhood has an amazing pool for use by residents only so no wait list... |
| Sport & Health in Tysons/McLean has an outdoor pool. And I think Regency Club in McLean does as well. |
| Thanks for all the info! |
Do you know which pools have daily membership rates? |
| Not sure about all of these but I'd check with Holmes Run, Mosby Woods, Dunn Loring Woods, Hunter Mill, and Poplar Heights if interested. Some of these should have daily rates. All the rec centers and all the Reston Pools have daily rates. Same with the Watermine, Upton Hills, and those types of splash parks. |
