I'm fat. Plain and simple. Of course, i pretend I'm normal and avoid looking at myself, but I'm a size 16-18 (well, okay, more like 18 now) and wear a "skirt-bathing suit." Went to the pool with DC and a little girl - around 4 years old - looked at me and said "you have a bathing suit like my grandma's. It's a bathing suit for old people." ![]() So, now that I can't avoid the obvious, I guess I have to diet. |
Awww...OP, don't be so hard on yourself. I'm a size 8 and I also wear a skirted swimsuit. They're actually kind of back in style now (check out ModCloth to see the retro styles!). It just sounds like the little girl hit a sensitive subject for you. If it motivates you to get in shape, great! Otherwise, cut yourself some slack. I hate pool season because I hate to think my neighbors are staring at me in my swimsuit. I keep in mind, though, that they probably aren't and my job is to just relax and have a good time with the kids. |
Meh... I'm a size 0-2 and wear skirt bathing suits bc I have a large toosh to waist ratio. Kids are kids. Don't sweat it so much ![]() |
Diets don't work. You need a lifestyle change. |
Thanks everyone for the support. Yes, it motivated me to make a lifestyle change, but it's a slow process (if I do it right). And to the pp that said it hit a nerve - yes, you are absolutely right. it totally was sensitive to me since I am embarrassed about being in a bathing suit. thanks again everyone for the support. |
get a different suit - the kind with a straight skirt. They sell them in larger sizes but they cost a lot. The typical skirted plus size suits are the granny style.
signed, a former plus size 32 yr old |
Also, everyone is "old" to a 4 year old! But I understand how you feel. I bought some suits with straight skirts last year and love them. I'm a size 14. Was a size 8 for the longest time and hated my body and covered it up all the time. But last summer was the first time I just said, "Eh, f*** it!" and wore a bathing suit. I'm sure all the 800-calories-a-day DCUMs were aghast. But I put off living until I lose the weight! Good luck OP! |
Diet as a noun: The kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eat. That is why your doctor will ask "how is your diet"? It doesn't mean you are ON a diet. |
Plus no need for bikini waxing with a skirted suit. |
I hate my butt and thighs so I wear a tankini and board shorts. It makes me feel a little less granny-like. I agree that there are some cute skirted looks out there though. |
I think you should just go ahead and wear a regular swim suit as you are. |
Don't be hard on yourself! Kids are often tactless.
IMHO, a lot of skirted suits call attention to trouble spots, just go ahead and wear regular suits. There seem to be so many kinds of new styles that you should be able to find something that doesn't make you feel conscious. Check out Athleta's catalog - they have a lot of sporty but stylish suits. |
I don't think being overweight + ungroomed is going to make anyone feel better about herself. |
I wear a size 2, sometimes a 4... and I still wear a bathing suit with a skirt ![]() I wasn't always a size 2. About 3 years ago, I decided I was sick of being a size 18, and lost the weight. I had been fat for many years---i was petite as a teen/young adult but gained a lot of weight with my first pregnancy, never lost the weight....gained a lot weight with my second pregnancy...never lost THAT weight...repeat two more times... Three most important things I did to lose weight 1. Measured/weighed my food. I needed accurate portion sizes...and just guessing at what was " a cup of rice" or 4 ounces of chicken wasn't going to cut it. EVERYTHING got measured or weighed. 2. Recorded what I ate. I went to spark people.com , but there are other good sites out there too. Find the one that works best for you. 3. Excercize. It sucked, but the only time I had free to work out was early early in the morning. I woke up at 4:30 each day. That meant going to bed at 9 pm every night. It wasn't fun, but I wanted to lose weight. I'll tell you, the first time I put on size 2 jeans, it was all worth it! |
Sounds like there are two things you are trying to do.
1. Not be fat 2. Wear a better bathing suit Tackle each one as its own problem and make small steps to accomplishing your mission. Dont try to tackle the ENTIRE problem at once; you will get overwhelmed. |
