What was your best family vacation with kids under five? We have a 4 and 2 yo. We're thinking the Caribbean this summer (yes, last minute) but we could be persuaded otherwise.
What's your best been? What are you doing this year with young kids? Bonus if "your best" includes a place with a kids camp or vacation nannies. |
| Fdr resort in Jamaica. Vacation nannies! Very relaxing, not very fancy, perfect for families with young children. |
Thanks! They have been on my mind. What did you love and not love. |
| I've also been to FDR Resort. It is fabulous! |
| Go to TripAdvisor and read the reviews, most of which are very positive and, I would add, honest in describing the pros and cons. |

I was going to suggest renting an RV and driving and camping somewhere.
That way the kids can color/watch TV/screw around on the way rather than being confined to a car seat for 15 hours. |
| Sanibel island in florida but might be too hot for summer. You are up against hurricanes in the summer in carribean. plus it is hotter and very humid. |
| How is the beach at for? I can't find any photos online. Did you stay on the resort the whole time, or did you venture to other parts of the island? |

The most peaceful, relaxing vacation we ever took with kids that age was renting a cabin on the Avenue of Giants in Rockefeller Forest (CA giant redwoods).
It was breathtakingly beautiful. the stars were endless, the forests majestic, and we were able to stop time and connect during the time we were there. The kids loved it and were the most relaxed and well behaved they have ever been on a vacation. |
| FDR all the way. |
| Is FDR better than Beaches Turks & Caicos? |
| We did an AI in Mexico with extended family. |
I thought seatbelts and carseats were still required in RVs? Best vacation is simple and relaxing for us. We love renting a cabin on a lake (went to Lake George last year) or going to the beach. Last year was nice. We swam, played outside, and went on a couple of hikes. There was a local meat market and farmer's market and we grilled out all week. The evenings were cool and the days were warm - no AC needed. It was nice. |
| We loved beaches Turks and Caicos. It is so family friendly. Hoping to go back this summer/fall. |

I've been to FDR twice...never done Beaches, FDR is far more reasonably priced.
In terms of beach, there is small beach at FDR where they have added rocks to keep the waves down for the kids...... For grownups, you walk over to a beach in front of another resort and then there is long beach for walking & swimming in. (Catch is that you can't use chairs at that resort). FDR is not fancy but I say you can't beat it for kids.....every room comes with a nanny! Glad to see that there are others on DCUM who like it too. I went at end of May on a fabulous deal they had. |
