Outer Banks - rec. place with pool access but not pool in yard?

Anonymous
DH is agitating to go to the Outer Banks in a couple of weeks.
Our kids are 3 and 5 and we want them to be able to practice swimming in a pool every day but not have the worry of a pool right in our backyard (who left the back door unlocked? Where is DD???!!!) DH would also would like ocean front or ocean side so he can walk to the beach at night. Chincoteague does not allow beach access after 10 pm and he was bumming about that last time we went.
Can anybody recommend a complex like this or rental agency that could hook us up? Anywhere from Duck/Corolla to Ocracoke.

We rented a home in a place called Sunset Captiva in SW Florida that was just about perfect in this way.

It is going to be hard to find a rental this late, but the houses in the Sanderling development in Duck have access to a community pool. If you don't mind paying $7000 for oceanfront, you might be able to find something. Most rentals are snatched up by March in that area.

The houses with pools have to have a lock on the gate at that age you should be fine to have one at the house. The Currituck Club has rental houses on the sound side and they have a pool at the fitness center

We had that in Hatteras. One year the rental had a community pool for a block of rental houses. Another year we had our own private pool but it was in a separate walled enclosure - no access directly from the house.

Look at Corolla Light. But yeah, its a little late in the day for this season.

I second this option. We own a beachhouse in Sanderling and have access to a community pool. Our place (as it looks like most houses in our area) are beachfront, so that shouldn't be a problem. Not sure if there are rentals available this late, but wouldn't hurt to ask

We've stayed at Pelican Watch in Southern Shores and rented on the oceanfront side. There is a pool in the community and it is rarely busy because it is a small set of two homes. However we have had to book almos a year in advance in previous years. We used Southern Shorss Realty www.southernshores.com

Meant town homes, not two homes

Check vrbo-there were still listings a few weeks ago. We have stayed in a property with Corolla Light amenities and thought it was really nice.

Agree with the PP's and will add that most waterfront houses do have pools bc they tend to be the nicer, higher end ones that command more $$ per week.

Check Currituck Club or Croatan Club - like them on fb. I've seen some 'last minute deals' posted by the Croatan Club lately. You might get lucky.

Or call Twiddy or Village Realty and tell them what you are looking for and see if they have some recs.

Thanks everybody! Looks like Sanderling & Pelican Watch may be completely booked, but Corolla Light, Currituck and Croatan Club have some last minute listings. Village Realty, Corolla Classic, Brindley and Twiddy have a few nice houses but mostly out of the range we are shooting for (we only need 2 br not an enormous house this year.)
Sun Realty seems to have a good selection as well.

If you only need 2 beds you will be hard pressed to find waterfront - those houses tend to be the biggest. Go for a condo type setup like Croatan Club.

Currituck Club has condos as well. I haven't stayed in them, but have stayed in homes on the property. It is very nice.

Highly recommend Buck Island - they have large houses with pools, and also smaller townhouses with courtyards and a community pool. It is oceanside and across the street is a huge shopping area (Tim Buck II) with restaurants and right next to a grocery store (that I've walked to). Below are just a few of the options with around 3 bedrooms and no personal pools:

Week of July 8th for $2600: http://www.brindleybeach.com/rental/house.html?ID=142&User=BRIN3790&Avail=&Stay=
Week of July 14th for $2236: http://www.brindleybeach.com/rental/house.html?ID=141&User=BRIN3790&Avail=&Stay=#availability
Week of July 21st for $2795: http://www.brindleybeach.com/rental/house.html?ID=136&User=BRIN3790&Avail=&Stay=

Hope that helps!
