No doubt a rhetorical question, but . . . All the people who hijacked the FAQ sticky and demanded their own "Big Blah Blah Blah" sticky.

A poem:

I was happy, oh yes, carefree,
When I first moved to DC,
Until I found out
And was crippled with doubt,
About something called "the Big Three"!

These schools of wonder and grace,
Each one a magnificent place,
My child would adore
To go through the door,
And emerge an Ivy League Ace.

But, alas! I learned of the debate
Which tangles DCUM forums with hate
Which ARE the big three?
Are they only in DC?
Or in a neighboring state?

Sidwell, Cathedral and St. Albans too
Will argue their "Big Three" status to you
Potomac, Maret, Georgetown Day
And the girls of Holton should have their say,
The laxers of Landon, the Georgetown Prep boys,
St. Stephens St. Agnes is making some noise . . .

Every child shouts: "My school is Big Three!"
. . . OH wait, that's their PARENTS . . .do pardon me!

"Then a poster looked down and replied with glee
what is top three to you is bottom bottom to me"

It's really hard to compare different institutions about who the big top tier school is. But if I have to say it really depends on what school you are looking for as well as how you differentiate each institutions quality service.

Parents have a very tough job. It is to find the "Big 3" for their own child. Those choices could include DeMatha, Field, Sidwell, Flint Hill, St. Albans, Lab, Duke Ellington, Holy Child, JDS, Thomas Jefferson. . . The list goes on and on. If you want to get your child into the "best" school . . . know your child.

Maret is still seeking applications (as of 3/9/18) for third grade- even after the application deadline. They have several available spots for qualified applicants.

Why did the poster on the locked thread get mad when the niche rating was mentioned? It was a literal post about the actual niche ranking, and yet was called troll and accused hating social justice of all the ridiculous accusations. WTH?!?!?!

According to the following:

I would say the top three are Sidwell, The cathedral schools, and Maret

But, GDS is probably on par with Maret

In the past decade GDS definitely has moved into the top place. Then arguably it’s Sidwell and the cathedral schools. Maret lags in fourth position, but don’t get me wrong, it’s still a decent choice for the right student.

Sidwell#4 in the nation...GDS #49 and Maret even beats GDS at #26. I'd say the PP does not know what he/she is talking about!

These are the most respected private schools in the country. Still, parents choose to argue like pre-school children about who is prettier, smarter, sportier, sexier, and "most likely to succeed."

Is GDS really Big 3? They act like they're in the top tier, but that's a stretch. If GDS is Big 3, it's acts like a very nouveau arriviste.

Based on how Ivy admission officers would rank the schools, it is:

1. GDS
2. SFS
3. STA/Cathedral
