Interesting news article. This couple is facing charges for getting public assistance while living in a $1.2 million house and traveling the world. Is it comparable to what this posting suggests? I would say yes.

We bought our DC house for $200,000-plus in the late 80's. It's now worth $1 M-plus. The housing boom has put many modest incomes into this house bracket if we were lucky enough to hang on to the property.

Okay, but why should you be given aid when you're sitting on $800,000 plus of equity in your home, while we're struggling to pay full tuition and our mortgage on a home worth much less than yours in which we're lucky if we have 20% equity in. I'm assuming that you're much older than we are to have been able to purchase a home in the last 80's. Many of us were't able to buy a home until the early to mid-2000s.
