for an SFS parent of an underclassman, what does this mean? please enlighten us.

Ask your child or ask a junior or senior.

Not helpful bc nobody tells you anything.

The weak leg as OP put it is leaving at the end of the year. Too late for this year’s seniors but at least it will happen. It would not be surprising at all if there are other changes in staff.

The office director reportedly is leaving.

Thought he was pretty good.....is this true?

A bit checked out and kept a spectacularly bad hire. The whole office likely will be overhauled.

There was already a thread on this. People checked. He is not leaving. Please stop.

Just wait, you’ll see.

Okay. Will wait.

Would this be the second overhaul in like 3 years?

OK. But the school definitely has been in a slump for a couple of years, relatively speaking. The college counseling office is overdue for an overhaul.

Yes. 11 students to Yale a few years back. Quite a slump.

That’s ancient history.

What would be nice is if the office did a good job to begin with.

"So the Sidwell C.C.O. takes a tough love approach, saying good luck, you're on your own 'cause we're taking a full break over the holidays. Meanwhile, college offices at other schools are at least partially staffed. And then Sidwell wonders why it seems to be losing a little ground compared to other elite privates on college results. Hmmm."

Somebody is trolling Sidwell with way out of date information gleaned from this site.

Not old news. The Sidwell director of college counseling, whose emails are now legendary, told everyone that the office was closed up through early January.

And worked with the kids and families every single week to make sure deadlines were met, calls were made, and that business was handled. That the office took a few days off to celebrate the holidays with their families was expected, encouraged and understood. Someone is giving themselves away with their “my sweet DC didn’t get in ED so I’m going to bash the office on an anonymous website” shtick. Please stop. You’re embarrassing yourself.

We love Sidwell Friends, but unfortunately the CCO has become a weak link, and it does the students and the school no good just to chug the Kool-Aid and say everything is great. The CCO is undersized, under-resourced and not always following best practices compared to peer schools. Some staff just aren’t bringing their A-game. Sidwell needs to put focus and attention on this.

Especially when they keep raising tuition every year. Eventually this will catch up to sidwell and they will find themselves with subpar students. Seriously. Get your act together Mr Garman.
