I don't think schools want to appeal to low income students. They tout their racial diversity but I've never seen a school advertise its proportion of low-income students as a plus. They are businesses and they are designed to attract the wealthiest families possible. They give out aid only when they can't reach their target of diversity/academic excellence/athletes/etc. with wealthy families alone. |
+1000. |
A lot of FA dollars are given to faculty as a replacement for actually paying them a living wage. |
They give out aid because they have to. It has something to do with maintaining their tax exempt status. |
This is exactly why we will not donate. I have heard of this type of situation numerous times. |
This exactly. To be a tax-exempt nonprofit they must be providing a demonstrated community benefit. |
I sure hope not. Many people pay full fare and make much less than that. I support Financially but I am finding more and more people and situations that make me not want to contribute to financial aid anymore. Stay at home parents should not receive aid if their children are in school full-time. That’s ridiculous as another additional thought. |
You don't know their situation. Maybe they have a special needs kid at home. Or are supporting aging parents. Or have a disability themselves that makes work impossible. Suggest a little less judgment about situations you don't fully understand, and a little more faith that the professionals involved are not handing out aid to undeserving families will make you a lot happier in life. |
No. Easy answer. |
This must be it. I know a teacher at my kid's school with three children, all at the school. her husband is also a teacher (not at the school). Can't for the life of me figure out how they swing it financially. The tuition would be more than their HHI. I feel really bad for her, it must feel like dancing for your dinner sometimes. |
Not true. Being an educational institution is enough. |
