If the Murch community proposes to rename Murch as Fidel Castro or Che Guevara Elementary, maybe you'll get Bowser's and Kaya's fuller attention.

I would have called in, but was too late. Did anyone call?

Done. I'm tired of stopping autocorrect from changing it to Much School anyway.

DCPS seems to be changing it from Murch to Not Much.

So the proposed Murch budget released today shows that enrollment is supposed to go down by 34 students. Are they cutting a couple PreK classes or something?

No.

No.

They're probably just making assumptions to fit the new plan.

The principal said that he was going to seek permission to not admit any new OOB students during the swing period so that may be part of the calculation.

And you have to be realistic. With the uncertainty DCPS has created, some people will pick other school options if they have them.

Get the press involved. That helps!

Families that have been rezoned for Hearst and Lafayette are considering switching to those schools.

At this point, it's hard to see construction completed before the end of 2019 at the earliest. Just like the UDC student Center project there will be other delays and costs as soon as they start turning dirt. Think parents need to brace themselves for 3 years in swing space.

Wait a minute - so there is funding for Kaya to go to Cuba for a week, but there is no funding for Murch to have a cafeteria? Seriously? I don't even have kids there anymore, and I am appalled. For years, all we heard about was all the money spent rebuilding all these great schools - schools that are still hugely under-enrolled. But they can't renovate a school that is over-enrolled?

Seriously, this is crazy. Sure, DCPS has issues - but 700+ of those issues could be solved if they would just do what they said they would do.
