DCI: Too much focus on tablets/devices?

I'm confused. At the open house event I went to, the administration said the computers were used in every class except P.E. On average the kids spent about 50% of each class on the computers.
My overall impression from the open house is that the administrators designed a school/curriculum better suited for high school/college kids. |

Not the PP, but you are completely and entirely missing the point. Will kids see this and worse? Probably, yes. Will they see it in the middle of class, while the teacher is teaching or during breaks in the school building? At most DC schools NO, because they are not supposed to have phones or tablets out in class or during breaks. Maybe you don't mind your middle or high schooler watching Netflix or playing video games during class. All parents I know would have HUGE problems with that. A current DCI parent has spoken to this, it's a problem. If you don't see the problem in it, well maybe you should be more worried about the learning atmosphere at your teens' schools if this is normal to you during the instructional day. |

They may be expected to actually be using them during 50% of the day (I heard a higher %), but because so much is done on them, they have access to them *all day*. That is the problem. |

Ah, the "eventually your kids... " Guess I'll take my 8 yr old to see 50 Shades of Grey. Of course in not naive enough to think this wasn't in my near future. I just don't think it's appropriate content for MS lunchrooms. |

Is the Admin getting the feedback? Hopefully the concerned parents are raising it to the admin. Just complaining about it on DCUM is certainly not going to get to the Admin. |

Still waiting for an answer "It is a normal part of all teens' days" poster. To say that means it's a normal part of all teens during the school day. Name one or two DC public schools (DCPS or charter) where this is the norm. |
