People developing their own tiers here is laughable. How long are those posts taking too?
The subjective opinion of a rando on an anonymous online forum makes USNWR and the other ranking "authorities" look good. The posts, with no underlying data or info, convey the info as if the authors are authorities too. We have some confident folks in the DMV ![]() |
I'm dying. literarlly. imagining a really pathetic frazzled hair woman pounding at her laptop on her dining room table. her kids are mostly GRADUATED from college. And yet... |
Im sending this to a friend at the NYT. |
What we.mean is it doesn't lose students more than it's peer schools. If it did its test scores and yeild would indicate it. Emory pulls from schools higher ranked and lower ranked schools. Parchment is a horrible source but even if you use it you can tell Emory gets high caliber students https://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=Emory+University&with=Williams+College Emory vs Williams https://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=Emory+University&with=University+of+North+Carolina+at+Chapel+Hill Emory vs UNC https://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=Duke+University&with=Emory+University Emory vs Duke https://www.parchment.com/c/college/tools/college-cross-admit-comparison.php?compare=Georgetown+University&with=Emory+University Emory vs Georgetown Some on DCUM have a weird vendetta against Emory. |
I feared our unhooked kid (top stats but not tippy-top and solid EC’s but not unique) was sacrificing a significant advantage when kid did not ED anywhere last year. I was afraid they would have regrets. I didn’t want to interfere with their decision-making and had to trust kid’s judgment and CC’s advice. Kid was fine in the RD pool- had some good T-50 choices and was happy in the spring. There’s a lot of pressure to ED and it seems to grow each year. |
They'll ignore this pp! |
So, you couldn’t find any comparable private universities against which Emory wins cross admits, so you are using a slac and public university? |
And they keep arguing. Has to be drinking involved. |
This is cope. Williams isn't just any slac. And winning 40% vs Duke is impressive, So is 50% with Georgetown. All of these schools are the same level as Emory or better. That's the point. |
Cope? Half this thread is emory cope |

Was your kid rejected? You're proving my point, Emory wins some and loses some. Regardless it's still yeilds amazing students and it doesn't lose 100% to any school. |
Uh no. Seems like you simply cherry picked |
Why all the Emory hate? It’s just an expensive college like 100’s like it, that happens to be skirting T-25 and that happens to take a lot of kids ED. For those of us in the Southeast, it’s a very good private university in the region’s biggest city, an alternative for those who may want a smaller environment and/or don’t care about football (yes, that is possible in this part of the world), and not always a “last resort” or “desperate ED choice”. |
