Michigan gov Gretchen Whitmer mocks the reception of the Eucharist, with a Dorito

Anonymous
Worth noting this is the same governor who shut down all churches during Covid — but liquor and weed stores remained open.

It's funny. Who cares what the religious nut jobs of the world think? They need to get over it.

Posters here keep saying that, but no one will explain exactly what about this is funny. At best, it's just weird. Not funny...but weird. At worst it's blatant bigotry.

Cringe.

I am just as offended by this video as I am about Trump mocking a disabled reporter and also mocking Hohn McCain’s POW imprisonment.

You're lumping all people who are offended as Trump supporters and phony Christians who aren't acquainted with those New Testament books of the Bible. You need to do some deep reflection of your own biases and shortcomings.

Not at all. You know full well the people feigning offense at this were never anything other than committed Trump voters.

And, you've failed to address the fact that the real mockery of Christianity is voting Trump.

PP here. Not true at all. I'm not a Trump voter, I'm a Christian, and I'm very much offended.

Very safe bet Whitmer’s tone def spokeswoman and her colleagues are in this thread.

Whitmer spokeswoman Helen Hare just mocked anyone outraged and actually considers it a win that this is going viral. Helen compares 53 year old Whitmer’s social media content to 22 year old Billie Eilish and Kylie Kardashian.

Real genius spin.

Helen is partner at the women-owned Watershed Strategy, their office is allegedly in Dupont Circle. Helen is a 37-ish year old alum of Oberlin.

Thank you for this background info. It explains the weirdness and lack of sensitivity for others.

For sure. They sound desperate, and it’s transparent that they know this is a serious misstep.

Honestly even if it’s not offensive, it is unquestionably weird and freaky behavior. Gross, even.

Anonymous wrote:I am far more offended by conservative Christians who spit on the core teachings of Christ in the Four Gospels.

They don't believe in feeding the poor and hungry, they don't believe in tending to the sick and the elderly, they don't believe in giving shelter to refugees.

Yet I'm supposed to be joining arm in arm with them in outrage over a Dorito?

Nope.

I just want you to sit for a moment and think about this. What you are talking about are biblical teachings espoused by many Christians. Are you saying that the government should also espouse biblical teachings to feed the poor and hungry, tend to the sick and elderly, give shelter to refugees, etc? Hm... sounds an awful lot like Christian nationalism to me.

Catholic Biden voters in my household and we are offended. This is also offensive to the current president.

It still happens. At my church, about 10% kneel. That number has been increasing. I think people are moving back to the old traditions.

Whitmer is hugely into making bizarre antimeme content to reach young Gen Z voters. It's the modern version of "(hippie) freaks" of the 1970s.

It looks s stupid to me but I'm not a 20 year old intern.

Catholic here. I initially thought that this was the podcast host behaving like a dog taking a treat. Maybe imitating a furry?

That said, now that I have learned more about Liz, I wouldn't doubt it is mocking the eucharist.

Ms Hare doubled down that it going makes it successful. It’s viral because it’s so wickedly hateful, creepy, and porn-ish, so much so that folks wonder if Whitmer could be a Harris saboteur. Whitmer cackling at post-birth abortion was also featured on the podcast.

There is no such thing as post-birth abortion.

How are they sick? What about this video offends you?

They are sick because they clearly get their jollies by purposefully doing something that they know will upset a lot of people.

I am not Catholic. I am an evangelical Christian and yes, this offends me. It makes a mockery of the sanctity of Communion, which was Jesus shedding his body and blood for our sins.

You chose to enter a religion whose tenets include pushing your religious beliefs on people who don't want to hear them, and threatening people with eternal torture, and you're offended that someone else makes jokes about it.

Who is she? I have never heard of her and the creepy clip had basically zero engagement when posted. Why is a high profile campaign co chair even wasting time on a show of some nobody freak. I’m assuming Liz is pals with Whitmer’s comms director.
