Do women expect a ring at 1 year?

OP here. This is how the real world works. Many women look to a man as a provider. Most men feel the sense that they need to be the provider. I’m surprised older people on this forum don’t understand that or understand men. No wonder there are so many unhappy bitter women on this thread.

It's how YOUR real world works. Thankfully, not mine; that would be hell for me to be married to someone who had these opinions. But that's not relevant. IF you and your girlfriend like this way of thinking, go for it -- just don't impose it on others or be so closed minded so as to assume that everyone should have such a traditional mindset in 2024.

Sounds like SHE can do better

How so? The OP is everything women in this area want short of being filthy rich. He has his financial house in order, has his career figured out so as not to interfere with family life, and is basically family ready the moment this woman is ready herself. He doesn't really have any sexist views, it moreso seems to be impolite for a man to point out that at the end of the day, women still want the husband to fill traditional husband roles (provider/higher income).

OP have you ever watched women watching bachelorette where the show is basically in the background and they're all just tweeting reactions? That's all this thread was lol

OP here. I would never date someone who watches that garbage. Thankfully, my girlfriend doesn’t watch reality tv.

You have a lot of rules for women. No wonder your gf isn’t in a rush to marry you.

So, I was with you when you said women prefer a men who provides and men sense they need to be a provider. But you lost me at the end. Maybe if you don't want to seem sexist you shouldn't call women who disagree with you "bitter."

It sounds like you haven’t gotten over your failed relationship. That is what keeps you from committing.

If you're addressing me, you better come correct, because not only am I in a relationship, I'm not on DCUM asking people why my significant other won't commit to me.

awesome.
yeah, calling women who are don't agree that it is their role to be provided for bitter isn't going to win you points if you don't want to sound sexist.

I don't see any bitterness on this thread. Most women want an equal partner. Only some want a "provider" like a child. I am 11 years older than you and even men 20 years older than you often don't think in such black and white terms. You think most women in an area like DC who are educated and have their own careers are looking for a man to save them and want to be financially dependent on them? Think again. There is a reason that the average age of marriage for women is the highest in DC out of the entire United States. Yes, women appreciate an income but they usually want someone equal to or more than they make. They are not looking for someone to be a "provider" like you think. You are 35 but sound 65. You are in for a rude awakening for a modern marriage.

OP here. You’re older so I will excuse your ignorance.

You don’t know what dating is like these days. Most modern expect a man to give them cash and pay for everything. They expect the man to pay their bills, even before the first date. They expect you to spend $$$ on a first date. Most are incredibly materialistic and want you to buy them gifts in the first couple of dates. I’ve dated around a lot and I’ve encountered many women like this. There are also countless videos of women on social media stating they expect all of this for a woman to even entertain a man.

I am dating. I know exactly what dating is like these days. You are running into low quality women. It is also why younger men like to date me. They say most younger women are superficial. Not all women--younger or older--are like this. (And I am thrilled to no longer be married. I was bitter to be trapped. Fortunately for me, I never stopped working.)
Anonymous
And btw, I do expect men to pay on first dates--and they do, but I am a cheap date. Coffee is date 1, dinner date is 2, most don't make it to a third. I would never expect gifts. Sounds like you have run into some pretty materialistic women. Don't make the assumption that we are all like that.
Anonymous
The OP isn't dating you, he just said he was out there dating women in the real world and many women are like that. Because they are. Because they're obsessed with vanity and SM nonsense.

You sound like a real peach. No older women are not unhappy or bitter. I would rather be alone with a bear than you. Btw, I've been happily married for thirty years so not bitter, alone or unhappy.

But if you were dating MY daughter I would encourage her to say NOPE

OP here. I’m just saying like it is. I’ve been on this forum for about 2 weeks before posting. I noticed most of the threads are about cheating, how much women hate their husbands, and how unhappy they are in their marriage and want a divorce. I also realized majority of people on this thread are middle aged women.

Women who are happy don't post about how happy they are. But, older women do have every right to be bitter considering how men have been treating women for years. But, no we have to have a smile on our face as we are raped, murdered or cheated on.

I hope your gf says no. I am not encouraging my dds to marry. It is a bad deal for them.

OP here. You’re dramatic. Men are the majority victims of violent crime. Women also cheat just as much as men. Next.

Wrong. Men kill their girlfriends and wives. Men are also victims of other men.

You are an ahole.

Ah OP has revealed himself to be Andrew Tate. That tracks with his posts.

OP here. I have many male friends who have been victims of violent crimes and gun violence. Far more than women. I’m not saying women aren’t victims of a crimes, but statistically, men are far more likely to be a victim of a violent crime. More men are also homeless, incarcerated, commit suicide, etc., than women.

I’m nothing like Andrew Tate. If you think this, you know nothing about Andrew Tate. I believe in monogamy, my girlfriend isn’t my property, and I’m not a sex trafficker.

men are victims committed by other MEN but women are victims in slightly greater numbers. So you are wrong.

She just turned 28. I’m 35.

The two couples I know who got married quickly after meeting instead of the 2-3 year courtship are now headed for divorce. It makes me nervous because it’s a lifelong commitment.

OP, you are old enough to know if you want to marry her. You already know the answer.

OP here. There are many other articles that refute that and say men are far more likely to be victims of violent crimes. Men are still more likely to

- lose custody battles

- go to jail for not pay child support but women don’t.

- go to jail for SA, while female predators getting a slap on the wrist. The increase of female teacher predators is alarming, and most are given extremely light sentences. The media also never calls it SA. It’s always “ had sex or had a relationship”. Call it what it is.

- become homeless. Very little shelters or help for men.

- Commit suicide.

- Not taken seriously in domestic abuse situations.

- Men are far more likely to be in jail and get harsher sentences than women.

Again, I called it like it is. Most of the posts on here are about cheating, how they hate their husbands, how they want a divorce, etc. Lots of bitter people on here. That’s why I only too advice from a select number. Why would I take advice from people on here who clearly couldn’t choose a correct partner and are unhappy, cheating, or divorced?
