Why is Pomona so special?

The whole SLAC thing seems complicated these days. It's not about talent. There is zero change some straight white or Asian kid from Bethesda or Lake Forest or Scarsdale is getting into Pomona.

Pomona is not getting the best and brightest.

Do you fulfill their box? That's all that matters.

Pomona is such a tiny school. I wouldn't spend two seconds contemplating Pomona for bright, talented students.

Really ridiculous post when that “box” includes 1/3rd or more HS valedictorians. And yes, they want a diverse group that brings a LOT to the table. Sour grapes PP?

Asians are the second most represented demographic in Pomona’s class and not by a wide margin to the first. California schools are overrepresented by Pomonas admitted student group and are more likely to be…Asian or white (it’s not a very black state). They don’t prioritize white kids in DC, but they take a ton of white kids from California, for geographic diversity, and even their DC students are mostly Graduates of Maret who are…white. Pomona really doesn’t accept that many people in general, no matter your race.

Ot's not special OP. It just has high rankings due to high test score and GPA per USNWR. I would not send my kid there (christian) because it's protection of Jews has been awful. Last March, Pomona and Occidental had the distinct "honor" of being the first two institutions sued by the (Biden!) Department of Justice and Department of Ed and Louis Brandeis Center for failure to protect the civil rights of Jewish students. Over a dozen Jewish students have left Occidental out of fear. Oxy settled two weeks ago. Wtf are you talking about? (1) The DOJ never sued Pomona. Two pro-Israel groups brought a complaint before the Department of Education. There have been no findings against Pomona. (2) Oxy is an altogether different school and it’s disingenuous for you to bring it up. (3) The ACLU complaint against Pomona is based on Pomona’s suspension of anti-Israel protesters. The Brandeis Center’s complaint is that Pomona failed to prevent anti-Semitic harassment last semester by the same anti-Israel protesters that Pomona suspended this semester. The fact that you think the ACLU submitted its complaint because Pomona wouldn’t settle just shows how little you understand. I mean really, it’s fine if you don’t like Pomona. But don’t lie about it.
