NP and I urge each and every FCPS parent PP to look closely and get involved and see for yourself. I’m a longtime parent volunteer independent of the PTA. See for yourselves. I’m now in an itinerant position and have witnessed some concerning situations and just about heard it all. Look beyond the carefully planned, scripted and prepared superintendent’s forum and planning meetings. That isn’t a measure of state of schools. Not even close. To the “inclusion” PP. you are spot on and inclusion is disruptive, stressful and an abysmal failure- most particularly in kindergarten with a crowded classroom with hesitant, to school-avoidant, to non English learners students. Woe to the child who enters kindergarten with solid English language skills, a burgeoning and expansive vocabulary and rudimentary math skills. The classroom is ill-prepared to handle “average” kids and therefore this type of student will be forgotten in the midst of “pull outs” and “interventions” and “assessments” and social service type visits. Ask me how I know. My DC was this forgotten student in an oft lauded (on dcum) FCPS AAP Center ES. |
If your kid was AAP, they were by definition not forgotten. |
Way to denigrate anyone who disagrees with you! These parents were sharing their satisfaction if their child’s experience. I know there are many problems - I think making regular schools serve special education students is a huge problem as is the unfunded mandate of IDEA, among other issues. But many things are fine, good or even great and it’s not fair to ignore that. |
OMG- this is so true. The amount of hours I spend on ridiculous trainings, meetings, oversight reports etc. It is SO DRAINING. I completed the “mandatory annual training” which was 20 hours of videos (that I couldn’t FF through) and tests - and the subjects were things like “fall prevention” Literally a video on watching where you walk, not climbing on chairs. I finished that, took a breath and thought, “ok, now I finally have some time to make that lesson plan for that struggling kid, and I get an email from my supervisor requiring me to answer a midterm review document that was 3 pages long. That took me 2 weeks to find the time to do. Finish that. Get another email to do another report on the pretend teacher lesson program I’m supposed to create and report on throughout the year. The amount of paperwork and training we have to do wastes our time, burns us out and keeps us from teaching! Believe it or not, I want to teach your kids! I have ample ideas about differentiation and how to challenge Susie or better support Frank. But the federal/state/district oversight takes up ALL my time, and a lot of my off time. People-please consider this when you vote. Vote for school board members who have been educators, who support teachers. |
I am a teacher who works incredibly hard. I am fortunate to have parents who value and support me. But, I can tell you this. The amount of parenting questions I have gotten over my career in mind boggling. My teammates agree. The second thing is my kids with phones have the worst attention spans. This is 6th grade. |
Coming from the righteous one who resorted to calling a poster an idiot. |
You have no place being with children. Disgusting. |
Truth hurts. PP is an idiot. It’s possible that PP is a political agitator trying to sh1t on teachers to push some Republican propaganda. But my money is on idiot. |
Would it be better to completely eliminate the phones in school? |
Nope. My kids have been in AAP since 3rd, 1 is about to graduate with a full IB diploma, the other is in 10th taking AP classes. They are at 2 different schools. The senior pupil placed to an IB Scchool. The Board reads like fiction to me. My kids and their peers are studious and motivated and teachers love them. Teachers will reach out to me unsolicited about my kids with positive messages. I think I'm more the norm than this board would have you believe. 3 teachers my kids had in the past have since left FCPS, the rest have remained. All of the 3 that left, still keep in contact with my kids and my family. 2 of the 3 that left, along with his current English teacher, helped review my oldests's college/scholarship essays. |
You’ve got yourself into a pretzel trying to justify calling someone an idiot. That makes you one. |
My money is on you trying to push some anti-children liberal propaganda. |
Just wondering if you could share a few examples of mind-boggling questions parents have asked? I'm sure you've heard it all in terms of over-the-top parent requests, btw. Sit with my kid and feed lunch to her, etc. |
Tell me you've never been in the classroom without telling me LOL fool |
Our current public school system is obviously set-up for failure. I wonder what their motive is. |
