What did Northern Virginia look like back in the day (60s, 70s, 80s)

Beg to differ with this, 80s were kinda sketch (though I also disagree w/ the PP who indicated that DC was such a scary hellhole in the 80s that no one went there).

Kind of sketch? No one went east of 16th street. Capital Hill was high crime. Union Station was high crime. 14th street was pre-beautification Time Square.

Definitely. Arlington was always very dumpy, and Old Town had a small nice spot, but mostly subsidized housing.

Manassas was about as hick as you could get.

Del Ray was absolutely undesirable

Responding to a few posts about areas:
Del Ray was subsidized row housing there are still blocks down there like that.

Annandale in the early 90's was not "all white" they did have Asians and hispanics despite a PP saying they did not. A family member had a condo smack dab in the middle of Annandale early 90's I spent a decent amount of time there.

Um, I basically grew up east of 16th.
