+1 Who knew DCUM had so many 1 pcters. If they have so much money, why are they spending their time arguing on this thread? |
what's sad is thinking there is a 'better' way to vacation. do what makes you happy and don't be a judgmental ass. |

NP here: safaris provide help funding conservation. Maybe PP isn’t being judgmental, but informed about what their money actually does. I’m not going on a safari anytime soon, and I’m totally going to a Disney family reunion next month. But I can also admit I’m propping up a large corporation. Own your choices instead of calling people names. |
I do not want to fly to Africa with my 4yo. We are way more down to earth than the people I am thinking of. They are definitely more snobby and won’t go places that they think are LMC/MC. You can think we are the ones judging. I promise they are far more judgmental. |
Given the cost of Disney, you are kidding yourself if you think LMC and even MC can truly afford that. Disney has become a vacation destination for the privileged. |
It’s a vacation. Not a way to virtue signal. |

The first time I went to Disney was as a 32-year-old woman with a group of other 30+-year-old adults who never got to go as kids. We went during Christmas time and it was absolutely magical. The second time I went to Disney was as a 40-year-old mom of a then 6-year-old. It was June, hot, with flash showers, and I was miserable. My kid had a blast.
I think you need to go at least once, but unless you're super into Disney stuff, it's not necessary to go multiple time IMO |
Virtue signaling is retweeting something. Choosing where you spend your money is not. |
| I don’t know if you’ll regret not going, but I don’t regret not taking my kids. For us we do have to make a choice whether we go to Disney or travel elsewhere, and since Disney is so pricey it would take the place of two summer’s worth of other trips. We usually go to Europe or Central America (have also been to Asia twice) and we’ve always done many kid centric things without the lines at Disney. I don’t feel like my kids are missing out even though I think most of their friends have been to Disney once. We do have some family who only vacations at Disney and they are incapable of talking about anything else, but I don’t feel like I need to spend $6k just so I can join in their conversation. |

Disney is overpriced and overcrowded.
The food sucks -even if you have the forethought many months and months out to get a reservation somewhere and don't have to settle for their crap snack offerings. You have to pick your rides and hit the hot spots according to timelines you don't control otherwise you're waiting in HIDEOUS lines. I don't want to schedule my day with the precision, thought, etc. that is required to make sure you get to see all of the things that you want. The extras that your young kids will want to do - breakfast with Cinderella and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique- cost an absolute fortune. And then the onsite hotels are more of the same, which is preferable due to traveling in and out, and if you have young kids maybe you want to easily go back to the hotel to nap in the heat of the day. Staying offsite to save the money is a tradeoff that you may want to make but it is not a good one, imo. We did it once with DD and will never go back. Not worth the cost, heat, crowds, fatique at end of day. That money can be much better spent elsewhere. I personally find it odd that adults choose to vacation there . . . . but whatever. If you're not requiring me to go, then have at it. |
My experience was exactly this. We won’t be going back. Like a PP said, too, we aren’t in a position to spend, spend, spend on vacation. To do Disney well enough to make it a tolerable experience -we can go on two really nice vacations at that price. I did Disney once “for my kids.” I wish we hadn’t gone at all. I felt like I was getting ripped off left and right. |
We like to stay at Polynesian where we have direct boat access to Magic Kingdom and monorail to Epcot. We always rent a car so we drive to Hollywood and Animal Kingdom. We love getting pineapple dole whip. There are plenty of quick service restaurants you can order from your app and the food is decent. We allow kids to pick one souvenir. If I had to choose between a bigger trip or Disney, I would also pick going to Asia or Europe. We usually go during long non holiday weekends when it is the lowest crowds. I would never go in the summer. |

I’ve been to Rome many times, yes it is magical but so is Disney. Also you can go to Disney for a long weekend on a 2 hour flight. |
