I really didn’t understand why they ended it with Christmas. Which Christmas? After the summer they returned to the the beach? The photos were terrible. And who took them? Creepy!

I think Jenny Han does everything for a specific reason, so maybe the movie is centered around Xmas.

Yeah. But I think (hope) the engagement spooked Laurel and she realized how stunted Belly would be to settle down with anyone so young. I thought she wanted her to study abroad and finish college and live a little, not just settle too soon like she had.

That's why Laurel telling belly to come right home when she first called from Paris was surprising. I thought she should be secretly cheering her on. Sounded like she eventually got back on board with belly staying longer.

If my DD called crying from Paris and said the program slot was cancelled, I'd tell her to come home too. I think most moms would try to solve it that way.

They have moments of it (bathtub and peach scene) but those are the exceptions. She is much more at ease with Jere.
