Is anyone familiar with Camp Shalom at the JCC in Annandale? I'm considering it for my 7 year old son who has ADHD and possibly Asperger's. It sounds like it would be good for him, but it's pretty expensive and I wonder if it's
worth it. Are there other camps like it that you recommend? |

Is that the camp at the JCC known as the "Asperger's camp?" I think they are inclusive, but the kids also do stuff on their own. If it is, have heard great things about it! The nice thing is even though they say it's for high functioning Aspies sometimes they will give one or two slots to a child with more needs. We know someone who's child got one of those spots and they were very pleased.
The JCC in general has a reputation for believing in inclusion and practicing what they preach. Of course everything I say about the camp is from word of mouth. My child has not attended the camp, though we considered it. It was just too far away for us. |
| We looked at it too, but there was no way we could swing the $$$$ tuition. |
OP here: We've thought about scrimping and saving in order to pay for it, if it really made a big difference for other kids. In the end, I think we're going to try to piece together other (cheaper) camps for the summer. |
