Hotels for family of 6 in NYC

Anonymous
I need help! We have 4 kids (7, 5, 3 and 8 months) and we want to take them to New York for 2 nights. When I search hotels they keep telling me that we are exceeding the occupancy. The baby sleeps with us and the 3 others could share a bed. Is this against the rules? Do we need to rent a suite? I have no idea what are options are. Can someone help? Please? Anyone have a recommendation for a us? Thank you!

Try the Room For 5 website! They have almost 8000 hotels/guest houses/apartments listed globally that have family rooms, suites, connecting rooms that can sleep a family of 5 or more! For families of 6 or more, listings display the '5+' symbol.

I think there are websites where you can rent apartments for the weekend too. Having some cooking facilities might be handy for you. You can probably get a cot to avoid 3 in a bed.

We went to NYC with our 4 kids about a year ago and stayed across in NJ at the Courtyard Jersey City. http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/ewrnw-courtyard-jersey-city-newport/
It is right next to the PATH and it was easy to take that into the city every day.

Yes, there are occupancy limits and you would have to smuggle your kids in (kinda like we would do on college road trips when we would put 6 adults in one room...). I think bc the rooms are so darn small, you can only legally have a certain amount of people per square foot.

Check out the temp/sublet section of Craigslist and you probably can find some 1 bedroom/studio rentals you can get for 2 nights. There is also VRBO.com for private rentals, but I found there were *so* many Manhattan apartments on that site it was hard to wade through.

Also, if you search this (travel) forum, there are some posts recommending hotels with suites in NYC, you could probably do 6 people in one of those.

Doubletree suites in Times square. All suite rooms.

Look into Affinia Dumont - reasonable for a 1 bedroom suite with a king plus big pull-out couch in living room.
