New PDD-NOS dx- what now?

| My 5 year old has just received a dx of PDD-NOS. He is about to enter Kindergarten in FCPS. He was in a mainstream preschool and did fine, with mostly social concerns. What do I do now? Should I call the school? Should I wait until school starts? Do I need to request an IEP or something, or do we just let him start in September and see how he does? |

Call the school. Don't wait til school starts to start the IEP process. Meet with the special Ed staff and principal about services, supports and helping with transitioning into K: Seeing the classroom, getting a good, experienced teacher.
Whatever you do, don't wait for school to start. You will make it much easier for your DS if you get him supports and services as soon as possible. |
