SOLS RESULTS

When are the SOL results released and does it affect their grades or report cards?

This is the message we received from our ES school principal:

This year the majority of test results will come home in the final report card envelope on the last day of school. The county is able to provide this service since we are now conducting all of our SOL tests online. Test results for the handful of students taking paper and pencil tests will not be available until late July or early August. When we receive those results, we will mail them to the parents of those students.

SOL results do not impact grades or report cards at the elementary level.

I told my kids the SOLs are meaningless and not to worry about them, so I hope not.

^ they are not meaningless if the kid took the 6th grade math SOL - score affects placement for next year.

In high school, the teachers find out that night and can tell the students the next day.

Why is it less meaningful than elem. or middle school report cards?

Some MS kids have their scores already - my oldest does. Some ES are computerized, some are still paper, so those scores will take longer to come in - usually late summer for the paper test scores. It depends on what grades they are and whether it was computer based or on paper. They are converting to all computer based testing which gives the staff more immediate feedback on what they need to remediate.
