tell me what you know about CT?

We are thinking of moving to CT - specifically Hartford. Does anyone have any information about Hartford? What about other areas of the state? Essex?

I'm from Hartford--don't move there right now. They are experiencing a huge violent crime wave (there has been tons of media coverage if you google or try courant.com) and little of the city has been immune. Many of the surrounding towns are lovely, though, and I'd be happy tell you more if you give me details of where you're looking or what you're looking for.

Essex is gorgeous and repeatedly voted the best small town in America. It has a great downtown but my friend who lives there complains that there isn't a good sense of community because so many people come and go seasonally.

The suburbs of Hartford (specifically, Avon, Farmington, and West Hartford) are really great towns with great schools and lots of amenities.

W. Hartford schools have gone downhill in the last 3-5 years. They're not at all what they were when we were kids. Home values are lower as a result, though, so I guess that's an up side. Love Famington, Simsbury and Canton.

My BF is a doctor with a young family and she always has lived in West Hartford or Farmington. Expensive like here but they are nice areas.

Am from west hartford... It's a nice town. Good place to raise a family. As far as school districts from when I used to be there.. Hall High School was better than Conard- don't know if that still holds true now.

I went to the University of Hartford. It's beautiful in the fall. HOwever, it was one of the most boring cities I have ever been to. Also, there was a lot of crime in the city when I was there.

Beautiful places in the suburbs to go though. Lots of lovely parks.
