Sorry if this is a silly question, but do you have to bring clothes for the baby to the hospital? I'm delivering at Sibley btw. |
Usually you only need to bring in a going-home outfit, and maybe an outfit for pictures. The hospital will provide a basic garment for the baby to wear during your stay. |
i delivered at fair oaks and they used long sleved t shirts as both tops and bottoms and wrapped the baby in the hospital blanket |
At GUH, they gave a long-sleeved shirt and a few hats. I think we got a receiving blanket too. Hospital clothes should be fine but if you are delivering in cold-weather months you will want to bring some warm things to bring the baby home (blanket, bundle-me, a warm hat etc). |
As a first time mom, I found what the baby wore out of the hospital the last thing I was worried about. I had so much other stuff on my mind, plus all the D/C information is quite overwhelming. I delivered in June and still had the baby wrapped in a bundle of blankets that the hospital provided. No one even noticed what the baby was wearing. I just wanted to get DS home. Maybe I will feel different with 2nd child. |
OP, thanks for the replies! I didn't want to assume that the hospital provides clothes and then realize I was supposed to bring some! |
food for thought...its a little different when you have a c-section and you are in the hospital for 4 or so days. as lame as this sounds i was feeling pretty good after i had mine and as a little diversion i had my mom and husband bring outfits to dress my son up in during the day. hey, it may be a good time to get the baby into some of those newborn outfits they outgrow so quickly! sure the undershirts and hats are available, and my baby did end up back in those when he returned from the nursery the next morning, no doubt changed after his bath. the hospital stays for vaginal births are much shorter and playing dress-up isnt really something you would be up for, but if you find yourself in the alternate category have some ready that can be grabbed easily at your house ![]() |
When my DD was born, I packed a bunch of little outfits and didn't use any of them. It was just easier to keep her in the t-shirts they provided and she was wrapped in a blanket all the time anyway. We didn't even bother to change her for "going home"! LOL I'm expecting again and this time maybe I'll bring one "going home" outfit just for kicks though again, not sure if I'll use it... |
I brought several onsies for my DD and dressed her in them right after her first bath. You give them "baths" and change them, so I didn't really think about what was easier for the nurses. I used the same onsies when I got home, so I wanted to feel like a normal family from the get go. All of the nurses kept commenting on how cute the onsies were.

Can you put them in onsies that early? I thought you had to wait until the umbilical cord fell off (like 2 weeks later) |
No one said anything to us at the hospital about it. I said onsies, but really it was the long sleeved, footed sleepers. Even though DD was on the big side (almost 10lbs.) the 0-3 months were pretty loose in the belly. I also wore my own pjs. It just made me feel more human. |
We put DS in onsies right away. We tended to use the bigger ones to allow more room |
