Health insurance for consultants?

Anonymous
DH and I are both consultants for large financial institutions, and neither of us are eligible for benefits. DH used to get benefits, but we decided to go to more flexible positions for both of us, where we can work from home and on our own schedules, we just don't get benefits. pretty soon we'll need to have our own insurance plan (or we can do COBRA but it's expensive). We're a family of 3 and live in MoCo, but we'll be moving to DC soon. What health insurance plans do other consultants use and can recommend?

You should contact a broker, who can educate you about all your options, and at no cost to you. We use The Hammond Agency -- www.hammondagency.com.

Call Golden Rule. I'm a freelance writer/consultant and am very happy with their rates, plans, customer service, etc. I live in DC. Other independent consultants I know around the country also recommend them.
