Oprah's Book Club is Back

Anonymous
Apparently it's going to be an online, interactive book club and she's dubbed it "Oprah's Book Club 2.0."

I don't think I'll be following the book club online, but I did just hit up Amazon for Oprah's first pick "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed. Anyone read this yet? Anyone excited for the return of the book club?

Also, not quite sure if the book club is going to be something that specifically happens on O's website or if it's just going to be people talking about it on Twitter and FB.

Heh, I see no one's overjoyed that the book club has returned.

I'm the OP, just posting to say I read "Wild" and I enjoyed it. It was like a less-self absorbed "Eat, Pray, Love," which I abandoned before the author even left Italy because I couldn't take the whining anymore.

Wild wasn't the best book I've ever read, but it was interesting. I liked the author so I think I'll check out some of her other books.

every book I've ever read with that label on it, I hated. And I'm not really that picky of a reader!

I am planning on dowloading Wild soon.

I actually enjoyed all of the ones I read from her previous book club, which included:

Night
White Oleander
I know this much is true
She's Come Undone

You have to admit that Oprah does pick some quality literature for her book club. Think Freedom, East of Eden, Love in the Time of Cholera, Anna Karenina...

I think I read that Jonathan Franzen was none too pleased when Oprah tried to pick the Corrections for the Book Club. How pretentious.

OP here- The only other book I've read before that I can recall being part of O's book club was Wally Lamb's "She's Come Undone," which I really enjoyed.

I'm not a huge Oprah fan and I won't be participating in the online book club, but I liked Wild.

Really? Which ones did you read?

I read about half of her BC books. The only one I didn't like was "The Road"

It's funny to me how many people make fun of her book club but if you read any favorite book or book recommendation threads some of her picks are mentioned often. I remember A Fine Balance getting many mentions in the favorite book thread. I've read a little more than half of her book club list and many of those were prior to them being Oprah picks (lit minor in college). I'll follow what her club comes out with for the occassional recommendation.

I consider myself a serious reader and I think Oprah makes great book club picks. Yes, it's a range as in some are a bit more "bestseller" than I usually enjoy, but she's also picked some amazing books. I think she did a lot to get people reading. I'll check out the new book club, though I most likely won't participate on line.

I think Wild is a great book. I'm not a book club person, certainly not an Oprah person, but I loved Wild.
