TO THE MOM WITH THE BLACK ACURA WITH NCS STICKER SPEEDING DOWN PILGRIM ROAD-PLEASE STOP!!

Anonymous
There boys are just finishing off sports in the prison yard and darting across the road at different points. There are also boys crossing the road to their carpool cars and you spank it down that road like its a regular main road. IT ISN'T!! I watch you every day and I can't believe you are that oblivious. A little child was hurt the other week because she darted out just as a car (not yours) was driving down Pilgrim Road yet the next day, there you were again, speeding down.
As a mother driving down that road, try to be aware that there are distracted boys and their siblings crossing all the time. I don't know where you are rushing to but PLEASE, PLEASE, for the sake of those kids, SLOW DOWN!!

This is not a vent but a genuine plea.

Tell the Cathedral police to step up presence there.

Next time you see her, write her plate number down then call the school and 311.

The police arrives bang on 3:30 and she usually comes through a little before that. But you're right, I may have to jot down her number.

She probably doesn't read these boards. Call the Cathedral police and tell them to show up early and watch out for her. This is their job and I don't think they will mind at all. You might also call NCS and ask them to put a line in their newsletter to parents about safe driving on the Close.

There are only a small handful of lower school STA families with kids also at NCS. Post a bit more descriptive detail of the driver or anything else you can remember about the car (MD, VA, DC plates; other stickers) and I'm pretty sure I can figure it out and will report to lower school officials. I, too, hate such thoughtlessness. Last year a bicyclist was hit on Pilgrim road, and earlier this year, some clueless STA mom ran over an NCS girl's foot!

I would say try to keep it non-public but see if you can get some more details and then report it to STA and maybe also to the Cathedral police. Where on Pilgrim Road does the speeding occur? Right near the lower school, or further down (by the statue or athletic fields?).

OP here. Right by the lower school from the prison yard onwards. I really hopes she reads this.

Ha. I've narrowed it down to 2 likely black Acura with kids at STA and NCS suspects as far as I can tell. One mother is lovely, and would be horrified if she realized that she's even doing this and that it's received DCUM attention (which, as far as I can tell, is basic daily reading for the Cathedral school crowd, along with the WaPo). The other could give a flying #@#@ and would tell you as much either here or face-to-face. On a more serious note, I will discretely let appropriate people know.

Yes it seems like the whole Lower school carpool process could be revisited. There are some who feel they can pull around all the people who have been waiting patiently on the right and park on the left in the handicapped spot or loading zone before the Prison Yard crosswalk and get out to look for DS. This blocks the people who just want to drive through and makes it more difficult for the cars on the right who have found their DS to pull out which slows the entire process. Then there are the cars who dont pull forward because they won't commit to turning down Pilgrim in hopes their DS will appear so they can avoid the whole situation. Police officer could do more to help facilitate traffic - asking cars to move, pull forward etc.....

Yes.

And what about some type of heads up sign around pick-up time for drivers who will not be turning onto Pilgrim Rd. I always feel like I'm going to get plowed from behind by drivers unaware that traffic stalls in that area around pickup.

As a person who frequently comes down Mass - the schools need to enforce the pick-up rules. It is dangerous to pick up a child on Mass. I do not know why you would think it is a safe option. Traffic stalls b/c the school lets parent's not follow the rules that were agreed to with neighborhood.

I know EXACTLY the car you mentioned. She zoomed through the stop sign on Pilgrim the other day.

Since everyone knows who it is ... what do we need to stop her?
