| is there a way to find out what ingredients/chemicals are in diapers...particularly the popular pampers & huggies brands? Thanks. |
|
I believe that Seventh Generation is the only Chlorine-free Diapers (disposable unbleached diapers).
This is important to know as dioxin, a carcinogenic by-product of the chlorine bleaching process, is present in all other disposable diapers. |

You could google it.
You could call or email Pampers or Huggies and ask for the list. The information is readily out there. |

| Is this one more thing we REALLY need to worry about? Seriously.... what are the dangers? Not being sarcastic- I'm serious and would like input. |
Baby with asthma wheezed when wearing certain brands of diapers, not others, so yes there really are things in diapers to worry about. I don't think it was a bleach thing since we didn't use bleach-free ones. I think it's "gel" or something that absorbs the liquid. |

What is the evidence that BPA bottles are something we really need to worry about?
Why do we bother with finding BPA free bottles - because we can fix it with low effort with a few $$. But disposable diapers is something that would need to drive a serious change in our actions. We would need to rethink how we diaper and actually make an investment into another way of doing things - so it is a lot easier to stick our heads in the sand and not worry about it. |
| Whole Food has their own brand of chlorine-free diapers and I just recently saw at Babies R Us that Earth's Best now has diapers that are chlorine-free. Certaintly a trend. I have found that Seventh Generation and Whole Foods diapers are fairly comprable to Pampers and Huggie prices, and work just as fine, therefore, we have aired on the "safe" side and buy them. Same is the case for wipes. Figured, why not? |
| we buy teh seventh generation dipes from amazon and get a 15% dicount because we signed up for the auto-shipment program. I want to say it's about $36-$38 for a case of dipes (4 packages) |

I cloth diaper my DD about 80% of the time.
The best article I have found about the pros and cons of disposable diapers was in Wired Magazine: http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2004/04/63182 There are a bunch of articles about the impacts on boys of lower sperm count due to the use of disposable diapers. This is not a chemical issue, rather increased temperature due to disposable diaper design. |
| I cloth diaper 99% of the time. It's not as hard as it might seem. I have fitted cloth diapers with velcro and snaps, which makes them almost as easy to use as disposables. I don't use a diaper service and wash them myself every 2-3 days or so. It's much cheaper than disposables. |
