I wish we'd get to see the real Mitt Romney

I really wish Romney would show his true colors. The caring compassionate Mormon leader in Boston. The problem is that he's afraid because most Rs vote based on religion and he needs GOTV so he'll avoid talking about it. Or he could talk about how he was a great and fair manager at Bain and how his employees really liked him, but again he's afraid of being seen as too Wall Street. He's really a good, nice guy. Not like Newt, or McCain who are assholes. If you knew him you'd really like him.

Mitt Romney has only Mitt Romney to blame for people not knowing the real Mitt Romney. The guy changes positions more often than most people change shoes. Mr. Etch-a-Sketch has shown himself willing to be whatever he needs to be to get elected. Are you sure there even is a real Mitt Romney?

There are degrees, though. Obama was willing to temporize by "evolving" on same sex marriage, but when he finally picked a side, it was not one that offers clear political gain. And on medical reform, he compromised the heck out of it, but never abandoned it. Romney seems willing to totally abandon his positions for political gain.

I know it's hard to remember and feels different because Obama is black, but the mouthbreathers behaved similarly when Bill Clinton was president. Hell, they *impeached* Bill Clinton. Over getting a BJ in the Oval. It was the same playbook: Vince Foster was the equivalent of the birth certificate. The attacks on Hillary parallel the disdain expressed about Michelle Obama (even though M.O. really behaves more like Nancy Reagan did with her policy initiative). The attacks on Obama feel more intense because the Internet echo chamber amplifies them more loudly, and they feel uglier because you can detect an undercurrent of racism. Netscape didn't debut until 1995, two years into Clinton's first term, and Fox News wasn't a factor. But even a couple of years later, Hillary Clinton was warning of the "vast right-wing conspiracy" that was enabled by the network of right-wing sights and their lockstep feeding frenzies that were just beginning.

Someone should create a flow chart of the right-wing media and how the bullshit filters through it.

My favorite pushback is the handwringing over the woman's focus on NUTRITION. Drudge goes apoplectic everytime she suggests children eat better and move more.
