What does the school board do?

| I saw a car today with "State Board of Education" license plates and it got me thinking: I never read or hear anything about the school board. What do they do, other than get special license plates? |

They run for election/re-election. Occasionally, they run for the Council (Sekou Biddle) and tout their commitment to education.
As may be obvious, I have the same questions that you do, OP. I do think that the board has some say in the curriculum & city-wide standards. Beyond that, I just don't know. |

| Take a gander at them on cable-tv and your wonderment will be forever answered. You will have a hard time realizing that they are representing a metropolitan city like DC. |

| I think the pay is quite low. I miss the days of the animated school board at least there was substance. I am telling you, take a look at the cable broadcast, it is like watching paint dry. |

Oh, one thing they are good at doing for sure!! I bet they are never lazy for that task!!! But then again, DCPS HQ is quite the same way. |
