Several months ago we signed a contract agreeing to pay for an entire year of preschool (Sept. 2012 through June 2013) for our son. We now very much would like to get out of the contract and keep him at his current school. The reason is in part some logistical challenges that have come up in terms of droping him off and picking him up. Also, we've recently learned some additional information about the school that really makes me feel like it won't be a good fit for DS. Legally we are responsible for the entire year. So, if we were able to get out of it, it would be because the director agreed to do so.
I'm thinking of calling the director, explaining why we want to keep him at his current school and asking whether, if she's able to find another family to take our spot, we might be able to pay some amount in exchange for being let out of the contract. It seems that, in this case, she would have some incentive to agree as she would get full tuition from another family plus some amount of money from us. If she doesn't agree, we're pretty much stuck with the school, as DH and I agree it would be ridiculous to lose an entire year of tuition. On the one hand, I feel like there is no harm in asking. On the other, I'm worried that we ultimately won't be able to get out of it and she'll know we don't want to be there, which might make DS's experience worse.
Anyone able to get out of such a contract or have suggestions about the best way to handle this? Thanks!
