OK, sure if that works for dfwbirthphotographer's client, then have at it. If my preschooler had tried to give me a hug while I was in transition giving birth to DC2, I would have flung her clear across the room.

I don't understand the point of your post, and I say that as someone who did not use drugs. With a different labor, I might have taken something. If another woman has Nubain or an epidural, what's it to you? Just do what works for you and let others do what works for them.

I would have scared my other children to watch me give birth in natural labor. I didn't use pain drugs but to answer the subject line -- what I want is gas like they have in Europe and other places. Because we don't have gas, I go without.

yup, best drug, hands down. should be used for all surgeries. also, there should be some sweet kids available in all hospitals to comfort the childless.

Kids and pets can be the sweetest ever. My son recently brought me a ton of stuffed animals when I wasn't feeling well. He is only 3. LOVE.

Uh, why would you put your kid through seeing you in pain and with that much blood and gore? WTF is wrong with you people?

Seriously, I taught preschool and knew two kids that witnessed a younger sibling's birth, and BOTH were scarred/freaked out all the time. I would never EVER inflict this on my child.

Blood? are you serious? there was no blood in my births until the baby was in my arms...

Where did "that much blood" come from during the hours you were in labor?

OP here.

Just to clarify, I had an epidural that didn't work so I'm not against drugs. I was very emotional and crying my eyes out during labor because our sitter didn't show up so DH had to stay with DC1 while I gave birth to DC2. The midwife authorized DH to come in with DC1 for a while (what now I know was over 1 hour) and they even were there while I was pushing. The feeling was amazing and all the pain went away. I wish they were there for the whole thing

I'm sorry that your husband wasn't there, but there is no way I would be comfortable with my child witnessing me in pain. Seriously people - from my limited experience it impacts the kids psychologically.
