I live in southern Prince George's County and am looking for a summer camp that will address the needs of a speech delayed child with SPD. I would like for him to be able to participate in intensive speech therapy over the summer. Can anyone recommend a camp that wouldn't be too odious a drive from my location. Thank you in advance for suggestions!

Your child has an IEP right? What about ESY services? Is that not something you've thought about and/or the school has not offered?
I'm not sure of intensive speech camps to be honest. Most people I know (self included) will be sending our kids to the speech therapist for more appointments over the summer. We are also enrolled in our county's adaptive rec summer camp. PG may have one. Ours isn't speech related per se, but it is for kids with all kinds of needs and delays. We are in AA County so not too far. |
LEAP (Language Early Advantage Pprogram) preschool at the university of Maryland in College Park has a summer session that starts the beginning of June for 4-5 weeks 3x a week for half a day. in that you also get individual speech therapy each of those days. This is an absolutely wonderful program and preschool, but might be too late for the summer, but no harm in calling. It's located in the Hearing and Speech Sciences Department and the director of the program is Dianne Handy
I should have mentioned that he's a rising first grader, so I don't think LEAP will work for him. We're also homeschooling, so no IEP. The adaptive rec programs are something I'll look into. Any other suggestions?
Even if you're homeschooling aren't you still allowed to have services from the county?
