Teach me how to make a good Bloody Mary please!

Any tips or recipes you can provide? Have never done it and am thinking ahead for Father's Day.

Wow. Something I'm truly knowledgeable about.

You will need: Vodka, ice, tomato juice or V8, worcestershire sauce, lemon, celery salt, pepper, tobasco or horseradish, celery, and spicy green beans.

* Fill a tall glass about 1/2 full with ice cubes.
* Pour about 1 1/2 to 2 oz vodka over the ice, then add about 6 oz tomato juice or V8.
* Squeeze in the juice of 1/2 lemon
* Grind in pepper and add celery salt. Hard to describe how much, but effectively you wind up with pepper/salt that, when floating, covers about 1/2 of the surface area of the cup.
* Add in a few shakes of worcestshire - maybe 1/2 tsp
* Add tabasco or horseradish (depending on which type of spicy DH likes)
* Stir
* Garnish with celery and spicy beans. You can find the spicy beans at most grocery stores near the pickles. They make the drink. Trust me.

As an alternative, you can use old bay or Tony Chacheri's cajun seasoning instead of pepper.

I agree with the above, except I definitely use Old Bay - substitute the green bean for an olive, a piece of chilled shrimp, and celery - and mix 1/2 mixer (or V8) with 1/2 Clamato.

Yummy!!!!!

Ugh. Only follow the above if DH is a serious seafood person. The idea of clamato and an olive makes me want to vomit.

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it! But, yes, it helps to like the salty, seafood taste that often accompanies Bloody Mary mixers.

13:18 is a genius.

Love 13:18's recipe, except another vote for clam juice. We usually put out Old Bay and Tony Cachere's and let the drinker choose. Southerner's like the latter, and those from around here usually go for Old Bay. Our wimpy Yankee (note: not all of our Yankee friends are wimpy) friends can just leave it off entirely.

OP here - thanks for the tips - the blood mary's were a big hit! I was not able to find spicy green beans at Whole Foods unfortunately, but followed the first recipe otherwise and turned out great. I'm not a huge blood mary person but DH was thrilled.
