ST. Joseph's preschool in Falls Church Recent reviews

I have search the forum for reviews but I'm looking for some recent opinions/reviews. Two years or less as the school has a new director in the last few years. We went on a tour and thought it was just fine but would like to hear from people that currently have children there.

Here's one data point, and hopefully you'll get more ... I chose not to enroll my daughter after the tour. I didn't care for the volume of kids in one room (even though the rooms were subdivided into smaller classes. It struck me as constantly loud - even louder than you'd expect for a nursery school - and I thought it would drive my daughter nuts. That said, I thought the teachers seemed competent and nice and I loved the playground.

My child is finishing her second year at the school and we and she have been nothing but happy. The kids are busy all day long and the teachers are great. I am happy to answer any specific questions people may have.....

Thanks, PP. Can you speak to the amount of parental involvement? We toured a school earlier this year that made it clear that parents weren't welcome on a day to day basis. No PTO or opportunities for volunteering. What is St. Joseph's like in regard to being a family school?

Also, has your daughter taken part in any of the specials, what can you say about them?

Thank you!

St Joes has a PTO which I am fairly involved with. The school hosts events throughout the year that parents are invited to participate in....Fall festival, Thanksgiving Potluck, Christmas program, class parties, pizza fundraisers at Ledos, etc. The PTO meets about 5 times a year and any parent is welcome to attend and offer input.

The school has an open door policy. I have to say that I have not seen many parents just randomly come in and hang out in the classrooms but I know that they are allowed to if they wanted. I do however end up hanging out in the classroom/playground for a while at pick up while I wait for my child to finish up an activity that she is involved in...the teachers are always friendly and make me feel welcome....

Specials....the Spanish class is excellent...soccer not so great......but I think the school is researching other options. I have heard good feedback from other parents about the movement class but don't have first hand experience with it.....

I did a tour and thought the big room was chaotic. I didn't sign up to be on the waitlist.

We also toured and I was a bit apprehensive about the split up of the big room but on the day we went it all seemed to work and was not chaotic. We are on the wait list, I'm not banking on getting a spot as it seemed we were behind in the sign ups number wise, but would love to hear from anyone who is there now or who may have been there last year.

I think preschools make a big deal about their wait list, but don't actually have very long ones. You'll get off of the one at St. Josephs for sure.

Bumping this up for recent (2014 and later) reviews. I believe the school changed ownership at some point (I don't know when), so recent reviews would be appreciated.
