I have a family member in town this week attending a conference at the convention center. We want to meet up to ahve lunch, but I'm new to the area and have no idea what to suggest between there and Foggy Bottom. We're both foodies, and love sushi, Italian, salads, and everything else. But, we don't want anything too heavy or too expensive. Any suggestions?

Near Foggy Bottom, you might like Founding Farmers or District Commons.
Near the convention center, I like Acadiana--not sure if that would fall under "too expensive" though. If this were me, however, I'd jump on the blue line to Federal Triangle, have your family member walk or metro to Archives metro, and meet at Oyamel. It's a modern Mexican spot owned by Jose Andres, and they have great lunch specials. Also, no matter where you choose, I recommend a reservation. |
Breadline on Pennsylvania, near the White House. There are lots of Chopts around for salad -- 12th St, 7th St., K near 17th.
What about the food trucks? You can follow them on twitter. There are usually a ton parked right by Metro Center (Macy's side). No place to eat exept for benches but fun for foodies.
Good Italian Choices: Tuscan West (Franklin Square), Siroc (McPherson Square), Potenza (near McPherson). Pizza, Matchbox in Chinatown.
Oya has an AWESOME lunch special. Three (delicious) courses for $20. Food is sushi/asian seafood.
