My husband is graduating with a masters in elementary education this month. He's a career changer, and loves to teach grade school. Now, he is looking for a position. We'd appreciate any leads on schools in Montgomery, Howard or Frederick Counties that might be growing and adding teachers. I know more seasoned teachers may be taking the choice positions in the shuffle that is currently on-going, but any thoughts would be appreciated.
We know Fairfax may be hiring, but the commute would be terrible. TIA |
Has he NOT applied to the counties you listed below?
It's somewhat complicated process, as you must go through HR first. People already IN the system always have first choice over positions that have opened if they are looking for a change. And new teachers are only hired if there is a need. MCPS - http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/technology/business/ats/logging_in.htm

He has interviewed with these counties at the HR level, but in at least MCPS, he must also apply directly to each elementary school, or at least indicate a preference. thanks. |
Then he needs to set up an account on the careers site. There's a link on the MCPS staff page. From there, he can apply to any position for which he's certified. So uploading a resume is essential, as is completing information requested. |
Is OP looking for the actual site to submit a resume or schools that her DH should apply to (because, presumably, they would offer a positive professional experience and are in need of new teachers)? I thought it was the latter ... |
He's looking for leads, I'm sure. But unless you know someone, a lead on this board will get you nowhere. So opening an account through Careers is important. In most cases, the openings will be at high burnout schools. So hopefully, he's going into this with some good experience under his belt. |
